Mexican police said 10 members of the band La Reyna de Monterrey died in an accident in northern Mexico Saturday morning.

The collision occurred when the driver of the vehicle carrying the band allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel while traveling on a highway in Sabinas, Hidalgo.

The tour bus struck the side of a truck and veered off into the opposite lane into oncoming traffic, where it collided head-on with a tractor trailer, police told the Associated Press.

The crash was so violent that members were thrown out of the vehicle and onto roads that connect Nuevo Laredo and Monterrey.

The group, known for playing banda music, had just played a show at a bar Friday evening in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas.

Five members of the band were also injured.
