A 1-year-old was fatally shot Sunday night in Brooklyn in what police believe was a gang related incident. The NYPD Police Commissioner, Raymond Kelly told the media on Monday that the investigators believe the 1-year-old was not the intended target. 1-year-old Antiq Hennis was sitting in his stroller as his father took him out for an evening walk. Members of the Brownsville neighborhood told the New York Post they know who shot the child and why. "We know exactly who the shooter is," said Tony Herbert to the Post. "It was a beef between the shooter's brother and the baby's father."
Around 7:20pm on Sunday night the toddler's father 21-year-old Anthony Hennis was picking the boy up from his mother's home and bringing the child to visit his grandmother. As Hennis pushed the 1-year-old in his stroller shots were heard and witnesses say a man screaming. "I saw a man with a stroller screaming: 'My baby got shot, my baby got shot," said witness Gina Gamboa to the NY Post. "He was going crazy." The shooter fired four times, one of the bullets struck Antiq Hennis in the side of the head. He was pronounced dead when he arrived at the hospital.
Police are working with members of the community to find the man they believe is responsible for the shooting. Police have also accused the boy's father of not helping to catch his son's killer. "Mr. Hennis has not cooperated with us," said Ray Kelly. The father of Antiq Hennis has been arrested 23-times mostly on drug related charges. "He has not answered questions," Kelly continued. "We're still trying to, obviously, determine his contacts and he has an extensive arrest record, so we are looking into his relationships." Commissioner Kelly also told the media the police have a strong lead as to who the killer is and it is "being aggressively followed."
