One person is dead following a school bus crash in Illinois. The crash happened around 8:15 a.m. in Newport Township, just south of the border with Wisconsin near Milwaukee. Officials arrived on sign to the overturned school bus and two jeeps that had been allegedly involved in the accident.
The reported death in the school bus crash was an occupant in one of the jeeps. At least 13 children on the bus were treated for injuries at local hospitals. The school district in the township said on their website that "Newport Elementary school bus 23" was involved in the crash, offering a hotline for parents and guardians to call to find out whether their child was involved or injured in any way.
The school bus crash reportedly happened just after 8 a.m. near the junction of Illinois Route 173 and Kilbourne road in Newport Township. The school's principal, John Coburn said the 25 children on the bus were "OK" following the accident. A social worker reportedly has made themselves available to those families who need assistance coping with the crash.
