Roberto Gomez Bolaños, the comic genius better known as "Chespirito" and the creator of "El Chavo del 8" is receiving an homage with the commemorative book titled "Chespirito: Vida y Magia Del Comediante Más Popular De América" ("Chespirto: Life and Magic Of America's Most Popular Comedian"). The publication is a team effort between Santillana USA, Televisa and Univision and is already available online and at retail stores. "The Hispanic market has never had such a beloved celebrity like Roberto Gomez Bolanos and perhaps there will never be one like him," said Maca Rotter, executive director of Televisa Consumer Products. "He has been a Mexican icon for past and future generations, considering that his heritage is more alive than ever."
Gomez Bolaños is the succesful comedian behind endearing characters like "El Chavo del 8," "El Chapulín Colorado," "El Doctor Chapatín" and "El Chompiras." Hispanic audiences have loved and adored these humurous shows which are still being re-runned on television. "It is an honor for Univision to publish the book of renown Latin-American comedian Chespirito, giving our audience access to unpublished material that will remain in the hearts of the Hispanic community," said Rick Alessandri, executive vice president, Univision Enterprises.
In 2012 Televisa aired an international homage titled "America Celebrates Chespirito" in honor of Gomez Bolaños. Countries like Mexico, United States, Brasil, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Uruguay came together to celebrate the life of the comedian dressing up as some of his most memorable characters. Flash mobs took over city centers in honor of him with Brasil being the winner of the best choreographed dance routine.
