The fall is always an exciting time for film as most releases involve strong, highly anticipated, award-contending movies. Yes, most of them come out seeking a glorified award season and mark the end of digital character blockbusters for younger audiences. It’s especially exciting for us when the season’s mainstream or indie pics involve Latino actors, directors, producers, etc. Critics are already raving about González Iñarritu’s epic movie “Birdman,” highly anticipating Gael García’s performance in Jon Stewarts directorial debut, “Rosewater,” and looking forward to see more about the beautiful tradition of ‘Día de Muertos’ in Guillermo del Toro’s “Book of Life.”
We’ll be looking out for our fellow Latinos’ talents, and to make it easier, here’s a compilation of where we might find them: in keep an eye for Eva Longoria performance in the movie “Frontera” where the actress shows her interest in philantropy and immigration issues; Selena Gomez will be playing Kate in William H. Macy’s “Ruderless”; Rosario Dawson will be in a movie written and directed by Chris Rock, “Finally Famous”; as we mentioned before, Guillermo del Toro is producing and animated movie directed by Jorge Gutierrez, “The Book Life,” which will feature the voices of Ana de la Reguera, Diego Luna, Eugenio Derbez, Kate del Castillo, Zoe Saldana and more.
We’re also looking forward to Guillermo Arriaga’s “Words With Gods,” where he gathered many talented directors to create different segments of the film, each about a different religion. Sofía Vergara plays a character named D.D. in the movie “Wild Card,” and Benicio del Toro will be in the movie, “Inherent Vice,” and finally, we can’t wait to see what Alejandro González Iñarritu’s film, “Birdman” has in store for us, especially since we’ll get to enjoy Oscar winner, Emmanuel Lubezki’s cinematographic talents once more. Critics seem highly impressed with the director’s first comedy, which debuted in the 71st Venice International Film Festival. We can't wait to watch these movies and many more this fall!
