Stories about immigrants in the U.S. are certainly not something new or unheard of, but this year’s Presidential race has brought an incredible amount of attention to the issue. Even though recent talks about immigration are focusing on undocumented immigrants and the alleged damages they cause to the American society, director Rafi Pitts wants to paint a different picture of the story with his new film, “Soy Nero.”

“I Am Nero,” which is competing for the Berlin film festival’s main Golden Bear prize, follows a young Mexican serving in the U.S. army but isn’t allowed to go back to America after finishing his service. “War is hard enough on young men but to then be rejected by the country you have been fighting for is probably the worst thin that can happen to any human being,” Pitts told Reuters UK.

Pitt also pointed out that foreign-born “Green Card” soldiers have been serving the U.S. military since Vietnam and found it hard to believe that no one has ever dared to talk about the subject in 30 years, “I don’t understand what people have been doing over the past 30 years – why doesn’t anybody talk about it?”

The star of the feature, Johnny Ortiz, expressed his personal opinion on the topic and delivered a especial message for Mr. Donald Trump during a press conference in Berlin last week, “If you fought for the Unites States and you lived here your whole life, you deserve to be in America – be with your whole family, no matter what the heck you say, and Trump, you can put something up your…”
