It didn't take long for the influence of fairly recently elected Pope Francis, who filled in for retiring Pope Benedict XVI, to be declared worthy of recognition. After just his first 100 days in the papacy, Vanity Fair Italy named Pope Francis as its "Man of the Year," the Telegraph reported. The magazine bestowing the title upon him is expected to be published Wednesday.
"His first one hundred days have already placed him in the category of world leaders who make history," the magazine wrote. "But the revolution continues."
The article features five celebrity quotes praising the work Pope Francis has done. Among these notable figures are Sir Elton John and Andrea Bocelli. John told reporters that he hoped Francis' influence would extend to marginalized communities, particularly the LGBT community. Though the Catholic Church has thus far been unrelenting with its opposition of same-sex relationships, he believes that Pope Francis is in a prime position to change its mind.
"The Pope seems to want to take the Church back to the old values of Christ and, at the same time, bring it into the 21st century," he said.
