Colombian actress Sofía Vergara and her entertainment company Latin World Entertainment have reportedly bought the rights of a popular Argentine television show in Latin America: "Mujeres Asesinas."

The English-language adaptation of the TV show--whose title translates to "Killer Women"--will air on ABC and have the "Modern Family" actress as the executive producer and Ben Silverman as the producer. The show, an hour-long soapy procedural, will feature Latino actors and actresses in central roles, guest stars, and cameos.

Vergara's adaptation will, according to The Hollywood Reporter, be written by Hanna Shakespeare and the story line will revolve around a female Texas Ranger named Molly Parker who works in a male-dominated profession. The series takes place in San Antonio, Texas, where 63 percent of the population is Latino.

TV Line reports that Michael Trucco will play Parker's brother and Marta Milans will play her best friend and sister-in-law. The lead role of the Molly Parker has been given to Battlestar Galactica alum Tricia Helfer.

"I play a Texas Ranger," said Helfer to IGN. "It's definitely more character driven than say procedural. She's going to be fun to play. She is obviously a badass being a Texas Ranger but she also has a very quirky side and she's got a damaged side as well that will be revealed - hopefully in the series!"

The Argentine series originally aired in 2005 by Canal 13 and is an adaptation of Marisa Grinstein's trilogy of the same title. The show is a composition of true stories of Argentine women who have faced various forms of abuse and are driven to murder. Other successful adaptations of the series have been made in Colombia, Mexico, Ecuador, and Italy.
