Two friends of Dzhokhar Tsamaev, the younger of the two brothers suspected to be responsible for the Boston Marathon bombings, were taken into custody by police on Saturday for a second time. The Daily Mail reported that the two men's first names are Azmat and Diaz and that their car, a black BMW 330XI, bore a license plate reading "Terrorista #1." There was also said to be a sticker on the back of the vehicle reading, "F*** you, you f***ing f***."
The two had been arrested, along with one of their girlfriends, on Friday, after police raided their New Bedford, Mass., apartment with the suspicion that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev might have been living there. The three, who are all in their late teens or early 20s, were released on Friday night before the two men were arrested again on what police said were immigration violations. They are said to be from Kazakhstan and current students at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, where Dzhokhar is also a student.
The car with the "Terrorista" plate was seen in a picture tweeted by Dzhokhar under the handle J_tsar. A neighbor who spoke with the Daily Mail claimed that the men had told her the BMW was stolen or that they were not paying the rental fee on it.
"I've not spoken to them since the bombings. They have thick accents so I find it hard to understand them anyway," she said. "'They went away for a couple of weeks a few months ago but they did not say where. I don't know if they went back to Kazakhstan."
The New York Daily News quoted a neighbor who identified herself as Jean as saying she had wondered how it was that 19-year-olds could afford a BMW. The newspaper wrote that another, 70-year-old resident called the two men "great neighbors" and "real peaches."
Dzhokhar Tsamaev, the younger of the two brothers accused of the Boston Marathon bombings, was apprehended on Friday after a massive manhunt by police shut down the city. He was found hiding in a boat in the garden of a Watertown, Mass., residence, and according to some reports may have attempted to take his life when he was cornered. The 19-year-old was wounded in a shootout with police and is currently in critical but stable condition. Previously the Daily News reported that in the days following the bombing, the suspect kept up many of his normal routines, going to the gym and out to a party.
