Karla Alvarez died on Nov. 15 after suffering from respiratory failure caused by some struggles with an eating disorder. Not only was her death surprising, but everyone was shocked to know that she was married. Antonio D'Agostino came forward and revealed he was the late actress' husband, but she had filed for divorce weeks before her sudden death, and the couple hadn't been in touch ever since. Karla's father, Carlos Alvarez denied that D'Agostino was married to her. "Don't believe him, they are lies. Antonio is a charlatan and an opportunist," he said.
However, D'Agostino insisted. "Unfortunately because of my problems and because I made mistakes, we took a break and at the time of her death we were separate," the 66-year-old D'Agostino told gossip magazine TVNotas. "I am destroyed since I found out and her family did not tell me. We got married in Morelos and they went to the wedding. With her mom and her sisters I got along well; I love Mercedes (her mom) very much." The Italian widower confessed his addiction problems with alcohol and wouldn't reveal if Alvarez suffered from the same disease. "I confessed that I like tequila, eating well, wine, I am Italian. What I am trying to say is that it was my fault, I made mistakes, but I loved her very much and she loved me too. All I can say about her is that she was marvelous."
New reports claim those "mistakes" D'Agostino was talking about were violent acts that drove the actress to file a restraining order against him and later file for divorce. Jelvin Sánchez Rodríguez, Karla Alvarez's lawyer, revealed that she was formally divorced from Antonio D'Agostino since August 30 and opened up about the divorce lawsuit, saying that Karla "had faced domestic abuse, both physically and psychologically." She allegedly asked his former husband to stay away from her and that's when the restraining order came into the picture. She didn't want a relationship with him.
