Netflix Reveals a New Behind the Scenes Look of the Upcoming Ayrton Senna Mini-Series

ALABAMA - Formula 1 fans won't have to wait too much longer before the Netflix mini-series on three-time world champion Ayrton Senna comes out. Just a few days ago, the streaming company revealed some behind the scenes images of the six-episode story that follows Brazilian Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna through his journey on becoming one of the best and most beloved drivers in the history of motorsports.

According to reports, the Senna series is set to be released in mid-to-late 2024 after the COVID-19 pandemic halted the production process for about two years. The docuseries will more than likely include footage and home video clips of the legendary driver, as his sister Viviane Senna and her family have had a key role in the development of the show.

The cast for the show was announced in October 2023, with Brazilian actor Gabriel Leone portraying the three-time world champion. Leone has previous experience in playing someone like Senna, as he portrayed Spanish driver Alfonso de Portago in the film Ferrari, which followed the Italian manufacturer's attempt at winning the 1957 Mille Miglia race. The six-episode series will try to embody the journey of one of the best drivers in Formula 1 history up until the tragic moment he died after a crash during the 1994 San Marino Gran Prix.

Senna's life always involved a steering wheel. At the age of 13 he began racing karts and by the age of 21 he had become a professional already. He joined Formula 1 in 1984 and spent 10 season in racing's highest ranks, where he won three world championships including two in a row between 1990-91.

The moment he entered the league, Senna asserted himself as one of the fastest and respected drivers in the circuit. Between 1985 and 1991, no one was faster than Ayrton Senna. He led Formula 1 in pole positions in six of those years, including four straight between 1988-91. He finished his career with a total of 65 poles, a record that would stand 12 years until German driver Michel Schumacher broke it in 2006.

The former Lotus, McLaren and Renault driver won 41 races in his career, but probably the sweetest for him came at the Brazilian Grand Prix, a race he won twice (1991, 1993).

Senna still holds a good amount of Formula 1 records, one that stands out is his record six wins at one of the most renowned circuits in the world, the Monaco GP. His six wins in Monaco came in a span of seven years between 1987 and 1993, with the only time he missed on first place being in 1988, when rival and former teammate Alan Prost took pole.

In his 10 seasons in Formula 1 before his tragic death, Senna never finished below fourth place in the driver's championship, winning three times, finishing second twice and third just once. He is one of just 13 drivers in Formula 1 history to win consecutive driver's championships.
